In general, when a person trains for certification in the auto-mechanic field, they will usually acquire their skills and certification through a reputable automotive repair school. This allows them to get licensed in various areas of car repair and maintenance. For example, within a certain auto shop you may find a technician that is ASE certified as a diagnostics specialist, while another mechanic may only have certification as an automotive service consultant. Only Master Mechanics have passed every field of study within the ASE curriculum. Only 33% of all mechanics are Master Mechanics. After acquiring ASE certification, the mechanics that work specifically on certain makes of cars will continue their training in a manufacturer-specific program, however, Mercedes is the only company that offers a Masters specific to Mercedes-Benz Repair as well as maintenance.
